The Martian Revels
by Meg Smith
The sun draws in the new year,
and brings so many reasons to drink.
The air dawns blue, and thin, and the moons,
indifferent in their crooked shadows.
Let us begin, then, among the russet hills,
gathering stones, and praying for everything:
fire, water, a young forest.
Only the romantics will gaze toward that
strange blue-green place, a kingdom
set apart on a shore of seafoam
or brittle dust.
