One Night On An Indian Reservation

by Juan Manuel Perez

remembering back:
deer-lady reading a book
an auntie named Jo

remembering back:
long line of bad ideas
too many to count

remembering back:
walking in the woods at night
nothing in the skies

remembering… light
painted faces looking down
touching my body

should I be afraid?
I'm thinking that I should be
but, why not? …why not?

she's smiling at me
such a warm, soft, caring smile
life is… what was that?

were those my organs?
now, I'm not feeling so good
…remembering …light
