A Night Off
by Howard Blaise
For Rivka Crowbourne
One day the Wine-God Luthil came
To th' city of Urd Thlol
To spread the glories of his name
To ev'ry sober soul.
They say the Wine-God Luthil went
To th' Wisdom-Goddess' hall,
Where Sendra's clerics, old and bent,
Lay under learning's pall.
Sing hey, the Wine-God Luthil danced
And flung his joys abroad,
And many knowledge-priests, it chanced,
Esteemed a newer god.
The Wisdom-Goddess Sendra came—
But not to scold or smite.
"Tomorrow there shall be no blame…
Let's party for tonight!"
