The Copper Vigil
by Meg Smith
I know nothing of sleep;
I pore over books of reptiles,
royal monitors in their gray,
statesmen, dragons, dreamers.
So I appeal to their court
until the black cloak of night
melts in the fire of a strange sun,
not unknown, but burning,
a furnace of elements, that
covers us all.
