Mark of the Vampire

by Alexis Child

Orpheus wanders
Through the catacombs
Of the underworld
Hieroglyphic mirrors
On the wall

Slice my solitude
With shrieks of the crystal goblet
Slashed by a ghastly death rattle
The Prince of Darkness
Smiles at our godless souls

A dark moon's horrid howl sounds
Under the haunted witch's tree
Great uncle Dracula screams
Under the spell
Even lovers don't seem to cuddle

It's no little blood ceremony
My pulse slows until
You think me dead
Casting a spell over eternity

You write my forgotten name
Like a cold black dream
We climb the spider's belly
When I am killed, don't wait for me

Beware the kiss of the living dead
In these dark places of unholy origin
Now I feel like the monster
Stained with blood from the fear
Of Yeshua

Waltzing in the sun
At the dagger of your words
Shadows darkly gather
How many sighs like blood
Have been drained?

Everyone is holding candles
I dance around the scarecrow
Staring at the cauldron
Calling spirits flying overhead

I failed to see your toxicity
Restless, evil, full of dung
Tame the tongue
Pretty little beast
I was born tender-hearted

Join me in my walk of sorrow
The spell he casts is foreboding
Telling the story of it all
Under the devil's aura
I fall into the Pumpkin Patch

I have two pointed fangs
I have always wanted
To leave my mark somehow
And I have never been
Loved this way before

Alexis Child hails from Toronto, Canada; home to dreams and nightmares. Alexis is a former Social Service Worker, befriending the demons that roam freely amongst her writings. She had a small measure of underground success with her gothic rock and darkwave bands in the past. Besides having rare mystical experiences she hopes are not just short circuits in the brain, she offers Tarot Readings and writes poetry and fiction, starving in the garret with her muse. A starving child is a frightful sight. A starving vampire is even worse. Please donate non-perishable food items and B-negative blood (and make it a double!).

Alexis' fiction has been featured in Danse Macabre, Schlock, Screams of Terror, and U.K.'s Dark of Night Magazine. Her poetry has been featured in numerous online and print publications, including Aphelion, The Horror Zine, Illumen, Metaphysical Times, Night to Dawn, ParABnormal Magazine, The Sirens Call and elsewhere. Her first collection of poetry, Devil in the Clock, a dark and sinister slice of the macabre is available on Amazon. Her second collection of poetry, Singing the Bones, is available on Amazon and from Cyberwit Publishing. Her third collection of poetry, Exquisite Corpse, is coming soon. You have been warned...
