Autumn ghosts
by Max Bindi
The Autumn wood creaks
like an old door
left ajar.
And the spectral eyes
of the mist
muse from afar
on an eerie landscape
of dead leaves in flight
that already smell
of nostalgic sites.
But for distant paths
beyond the blanket of fog
phantom lovers come forward
among the reflections of the wind
with no more love words
and no more regrets
walking under the lime trees
led by living Death
into the hazy shade
of the October fall
deeper than
Hades smoking hole.
