Season Of The Witch

by Alexis Child

I've fallen for a witch
Must be the one
Moonstruck by his eyes

His hunger I wish to feed
By spell or charm
He means me no harm?

Hade's sweet Sorcerer
Runs in high places
His dark hounds by his side

You, darkness that I learn of
To pray to Hecate?
The skin of my world

The witch calls it magic, a women's circle of light
Driving us beyond the dread of the night
Tread carefully; lest you are filled with mad desire

Worshipping moon and stars
Collecting herbs in a jar
Meld with nature
And wander the earth

By candlelit sage
So eerie a vapor
Sorcerer's energy whispers
Tingles my spine
By your side I should die

A blackest passion
Sets me apart
From the world I know
He decides whether we burn

You are dancing with fire
I will watch you squeal and squirm
His curses have come at such a high price

Like all the others
All innocents
The ones who walked this path before
The ones who never did any wrong

We committed no sin
Battling in the cruel Season of the Witch
I never listened to the cries of the wind
From the countless others that perished
'Do what ye will but harm none'

Like the hammer that falls
In my spirit, I can still hear
The Sorcerer's words echoing
As if all heaven had lost its color

Roses fall from the sky
Dare not to fly
Dare not to cry
Dare not to die

Alexis Child hails from Toronto, Canada; home to dreams and nightmares. Alexis is a former Social Service Worker, befriending the demons that roam freely amongst her writings. She had a small measure of underground success with her gothic rock and darkwave bands in the past. Besides having rare mystical experiences she hopes are not just short circuits in the brain, she offers Tarot Readings and writes poetry and fiction, starving in the garret with her muse. A starving child is a frightful sight. A starving vampire is even worse. Please donate non-perishable food items and B-negative blood (and make it a double!).

Alexis' fiction has been featured in Danse Macabre, Schlock, Screams of Terror, and U.K.'s Dark of Night Magazine. Her poetry has been featured in numerous online and print publications, including Aphelion, The Horror Zine, Illumen, Metaphysical Times, Night to Dawn, ParABnormal Magazine, The Sirens Call and elsewhere. Her first collection of poetry, Devil in the Clock, a dark and sinister slice of the macabre is available on Amazon. Her second collection of poetry, Singing the Bones, is available on Amazon and from Cyberwit Publishing. Her third collection of poetry, Exquisite Corpse, is coming soon. You have been warned...
