As Old As Stars

by Juan Manuel Perez

twelve tet'rons ago
when this world was new to us
when the founders came

we built great cities
with grand temples to our gods
per social contract

we built crystal roads
from all this world had offered
wasting no resource

we built shopping malls
to remind us of home’world
what we left behind

we built everything
in the likeness of before
as our tradition

now to this tet'tron
is all this place could handle
acts as old as stars

all Great Migrations
begin with much depletion
natural unrest
