Red-Eyes On Rockets

by Juan Manuel Perez

colonialism
those that came in peace did not
do they know our past

tall and majestic
as we were once thought to be
they were way much more

silky, olive skin
ten heads above our tallest
six powerful arms

oval, charming eyes
that held the secrets of time
embraced us as friends

it was us that came
wandering the cosmos
dropped upon their world

will they grow to hate
as we hated those that came
changed our way of life

earth’s first nation-kind
we have discovered nothing
but peace in the stars
