Dust in Going

by Meg Smith

The night sky fell away
and revealed nothing
from its cold light,
but this ash, unending.
I know your pain
rises from the earth,
a bridge
between universes.
My heart will not lose you,
even as these stars,
stones, planets
ripple, reaching,
waves of nothing.
