Inspiration
by Jean Jones For Sam
Why do I write
what I write?
What drives anyone?
Urges? Addictions?
Vampires drive me.
Vampires are addicts
like me,
although my addictions
are not heroin and crack
I am an addict
nonetheless,
I once knew
and cared for a women
who cared for me
but heroin
and fentanyl
ended our relationship
She and I
were two of a kind,
addicts in our own way,
and friends as well.
Every time I watch
a vampire movie
I think of her,
her with her heroin,
and me,
Being with
her—
Now she's gone,
and I'm alive,
And every time
I watch Dracula,
I see her with me,
and I was happy,
then—
