Blood Lust
by Alexis Child
Most love the daylight
I embrace the night
I am the strongest creature
I have ever known
Bite by bite
These steely gray eyes
Search the kingdom
To hunt mortal prey
Under the frosty moon
Eternity's slave
A dark and gloomy soul
I am handsome, ancient
Brave, and dressed in black
And silken garb
I find it quite a thrill
When monsters
Move in for the kill
Then I really can't keep still
That’s what makes this vampire grin
Make no mistake
I move closer to your throat
And so I want to taste your blood
My sacrificial goat
Pry open the casket
Hold out your arm
In your dreams and nightmares
I will do no harm
A crimson mess
Where the answer is always yes
Your blood is like wine
And just for tonight, House Red is just fine
I guess I have a really addictive personality
My dear, sweet succulent angel
I have smeared you with the blood of the many
Wrapped in satin black, your body haunts mine
And your raven hair like soft moss drives me wild
Your crimson lips taunt me to feed
And now I believe I am becoming weak
For I loved a mortal with blue eyes
Since your death, my desire for you only increases
I wish to feed on each other exclusively
"It was love," I sighed through razor-sharp teeth
Now I am truly frightened of what I have done
My soul is truly damned destined to roam
For an eternity alone
So stake me like the vampire that I am
Because of what could never be
This heart is dead
These veins run cold
Put me in the sun, and set me free
Because I am no longer the same old me

Alexis Child hails from Toronto, Canada; home to dreams and nightmares.
She worked at a Call Crisis Center befriending demons of the mind that
roam freely amongst her writings. Alexis once lived with a Calico-cat
child sleuthing all that went bump in the night and is haunted by the
memory of her cat. She has had a small measure of underground success
with her gothic rock and darkwave bands in the past. Alexis is
currently working on her second poetry collection and starving in the
garret with her muse. A starving child is a frightful sight. A starving
vampire is even worse. Please donate non-perishable food items and
B-negative blood (and make it a double!).
Her fiction has been featured in Danse Macabre, Schlock,
Screams of
Terror, and U.K.’s Dark of Night Magazine. Her poetry has
been featured
in numerous online and print publications, including Aphelion,
Black
Petals, Blood Moon Rising Magazine, Grotesque, The Horror Zine, The
Sirens Call and elsewhere. Alexis' first collection of poetry, a
dark
and sinister slice of the macabre, Devil In The Clock, is now
available
on Amazon.
