On Halloween Night
by Gary W. Davis
It’s Halloween night, when all’s a’fright,
with witches and goblins and ghosts about.
The ghouls are grinning, vampires are drinking,
while little ones scurry for treats to eat.
Then cupboards run bare, and there’s many a scare,
for those who aren’t quick receive a little trick.
But we mustn’t forget the Evens of yore,
when Jack took his lantern out on the moor.
And Druids presided at esoteric rites,
to save the world from a long, lengthening night.
