Wave of Darkening

by Meg Smith

In the red dust, shadows emerge and grow,
and people the landscape — forests,
and forest-dwellers,
new mountains, pyramids or faces in time.
Every thought has forged a footpath
in this great forest of night.
Rivers of flame flow through them,
and around them. Seas of ice reach,
from north, and south,
to claim them.
