Vast Darkness
by Matthew Meyer
As a single speck
In a precarious, irrepressible universe,
My world is consumed
With the darkness that is inevitable.
I give up my soul, body, and mind,
As a token of acceptance
To the immense spirit before me.
I shall never retain nor control
Any more deceptive knowledge
That I used blindly in my ignorance,
That cast me out
Into the void of everlasting solemnness.
The days become my judgement,
The hours, my executioner,
And as my life plunges deeper and deeper
Into the vast darkness that is my tomb,
I give every last condolence,
To the loved ones that I’ve dismayed.
