Mother and daughter Stars
by Meg Smith
For the luxury of
a backyard,
a passage —
lights without end,
and but for one
to descend
and open.
Even from here,
it is clear—
all stars are
from mothers and daughters.
They beget that light,
and scatter it
into the manmade
fold of night.
