Mountain Crackle

by J. D. DeHart

From the lines of old gods
he was more at highest peak,
beyond the reaches
of the humans he would join.

Raised in his tender wilderness,
he would come to call queen
deception a mother, until he would
learn all of her tricks.

Then he would ascend again,
let power crackle over him,
fighting the large eagles who would
try to carry him away

fighting the war god with his silver
talons,
fighting the goddess of allure with her
winking lashes,

to join his frame to a heroic wall
of written history.
