What Remains

(Statues and Monuments)

by Jean Jones

What remains?
The pyramids, the oceans, the mountains, and the moon.

After the Roman Empire and the breakup of the British Empire,
what remains?

The pyramids, the oceans, the mountains, and the moon.

The rest lie buried in ashes, and decaying statues
and as the living decide what to do with those statues,

the question is asked, "What remains?"

The answer is the same:

The pyramids, the oceans, the mountains, and the moon.
The rest lie buried in ashes and decaying statues
