The Long Run
by Denny E. Marshall
Part One
Tonight on a faraway world
Group of friends reach tallest mountain,
One hundred and twenty miles high.
All ski for about six hours
In one run without stopping;
Only fear is avalanches
That at times can last for hours.
While sliding down, they dream
Of other planets with larger slopes.
Part Two
On a different unknown planet
A few friends reach highest peak
Know to exist on the globe
Eighteen thousand feet altitude
They too dream of other worlds
With great valleys and high mountains
Though some have their doubts
That it is even possible
