The Vampire's Last Request
by Ian Mullins
See all I am, all I have been,
dwindled down to dust
by these frightened fools
armed with sunlight
and martyr's blood
cowering behind their crosses.
And this, little men,
is all the darkness you have left me;
a few precious seconds
seconded from eternity
before the rubies of my lips
dry the grey of gravestones,
but I will pour the night's
silver dust in your ears
so you may crawl back to heaven
and your ditch-water daylight,
but still hear midnight
pound my blood through your veins.
