Out There
by Brian S. Lingard
Out there,
beyond the farthest point of light,
vast strange intelligences
detect odd signals tickling
the ether between the stars,
signals that resolve into images
of laughter, romance, and joy
inter-cut with destruction and sadness
from a long extinct civilization.
Out there, beyond the farthest point of light,
vast strange intelligences,
unmoved and indifferent,
capture, classify, and preserve
until the very atoms disintegrate
and the universe dissolves
into a cold quiet.
