History Class

by Mike Berger

The professor droned on;
my mind rebelled Bizarre
ruminations danced in my head.

A purple parakeet plays
the kadzu. A mongoose
bays at the moon.

A wicked witch eats burning
snow, while making a peanut
butter sandwich.

The Queens crown has slipped
to her toes; licked by a skinny
yellow dog.

The rock star belts out a
raunchy melody, but no
sound comes out.

Army ants march against
the castle while the queen
bee plays the trombone.

The bell rings; class is over.
Respite at last. What crazy
things the mind can do.
