Deneb
by Bob Brill
a beam of starlight
three thousand years
on its journey
reaches Earth just in time
to pass through a momentary hole
in the cloud cover
penetrate my eyeballs
unleash cascades of neurons
and trigger the manifold circuits of wonder
other clouds move in
and snuff out great Deneb
but a few million neurons
still zing around my brain
finally to extrude a poem
