Deadly Pursuit
by Aurelio Rico Lopez III
From stone walls,
Torches thrust
Like dismembered limbs.
Flames burn low,
Illuminating the next few yards,
But too dim to provide
Any direction.
A mute audience of
Scattered corpses stare out
Of hollow sockets.
Stumbling through endless
Hallways and corridors,
He pushes forward
‘Til the next turn reveals
A dead end.
A horned shadow
Emerges from the corner.
The corpses wait
In hushed anticipation
As the chase comes to a close.
