Dernhelm

by Teri Wachowiak

Once Rohan stood as a kingdom renown,
Where kings did reign in their pride,
‘Til jackals sported with the last of our line,
And our legacy was shamed, cast aside.

Out from the graves of kings long dead in time,
A cry did arise and resound,
Take up thy blade in the service of light,
And in honor your peace will be found,
By destiny’s chains you are bound.

Bright was his promise as the sun warms the cold,
A king yet uncrowned in my hall,
Hope unexpected in my breast was born,
And my heart could but answer to his call.

Out from the graves of kings long dead in time,
A cry did arise and resound,
Take up thy blade in the service of light,
And in honor your peace will be found,
By destiny’s chains you are bound.

A high king of summer where winter held sway,
A desperate dream to break free,
My line now restored and to Gondor we’ll ride,
But what or who can save me?

Out from the graves of kings long dead in time,
A cry did arise and resound,
Take up thy blade in the service of light,
And in honor your peace will be found,
By destiny’s chains you are bound.

None knew my sorrow, none knew my pain,
Or my grief at my heritage brought low.
This high king of light, I will follow his way,
To life or to death, I don’t know.

Out from the graves of kings long dead in time,
A cry did arise and resound,
Take up thy blade in the service of light,
And in honor your peace will be found,
By destiny’s chains you are bound.

Eowyn, cold lady, with heart sheathed in ice,
My name now I’ll leave in my hall,
To die as a warrior with some measure of grace,
Or to live in his light is my all.

Out from the graves of kings long dead in time,
A cry did arise and resound,
Take up thy blade in the service of light,
And in honor your peace will be found,
By destiny’s chains you are bound.
