There Was A...
by Ian Albright
Once there was a princess fair,
who sat upon her throne.
She ruled all that she beheld,
yet still she ruled alone.
Then there came unto her side
a brave and loyal knight,
who swore himself to her cause,
for his lady he would fight.
Her heart smiled at him then with a grin
she said that it should be,
and then she wished for her new knight
to prove his bravery.
Into her lands did he so ride
to fight for his lady fair.
He battled trolls and foul dwarves
and drove them from their lairs.
With thoughts of honor fresh in mind
his bravery was so great
he fought an evil dragon
in its home beneath a lake.
He rescued peasants from their home
which burned down to the ground,
then gave the hapless peasants gold
from treasures he had found.
Until there finally came a time
when evil was no more,
then the knight he made his way
back to his lady's door.
And for the time that he had spent,
it only seemed a day,
yet when he returned he found
his princess passed away.
So his greatest quest had failed,
appease his lady on the throne,
for he took only bravest thoughts,
left her love and heart alone.
