The Genome Project

by Kate Thornton

Drosophila's swatted and slapped
As multiple genomes are mapped
Our genes and our fame
Are nearly the same
As genetic diversity's zapped.

James Watson and ol' Francis Crick
Separated their genes with a stick
They got out of trouble
The helix was double!
But tell them apart - that's the trick

Even the grass green and placid
Remember - whenever you pass it
Those millions of blades
Are biology in spades-
Deoxyribonucleic acid!
