Hello and welcome to the December 2021 issue of Aphelion!

In this issue, we have our regular supply of outstanding original stories as well as our annual Best Of lists--for the final issue of our 24th year of continuous publication We will be back in February to begin our 25th year.

Over the past week, the Southeastern writing community has lost two of our luminaries; Darrell "Doc" Osborn and Jonathan David Baird. Please join us in sending our condolences and sympathy to their families. These gentlemen contributed greatly to fandom; Doc as an entertainer and cover artist, Jonathan as a writer, both of them well loved by the community. As happy as I am to be gifted by their presence for so long, losing them hurts in ways I cannot fully describe. Let us raise a glass in toast to our absent friends. Let us also keep and hold their families in our thoughts and memories.

This news has taken the wind out of my sails for a time, so I'm going to cut this editorial short out of respect to Doc and Jonathan.

I'll leave you with this advice; make the most of the time you have with your loved ones. The future is not promised. The now is all we have, although the past burns brightly in our rememberances.
