Pipe
by Denny E. Marshall
Jeri and his friend Bud were exploring outside of town, and found an
outlet that looked like a drainage pipe, large enough in diameter
for a person to stand up in it.
Bud had a flashlight, so they decided to see where it lead. Both
Jeri and Bud noticed how smooth the interior of the pipe was, compared
with other drainage pipes, which are usually corrugated. They reached a
dead end: a large metal object blocking the path, almost the same
diameter as the pipe, with less than a centimeter of space between the
interior of the pipe and the object.
Jeri squinted to see the writing stamped into the object:"Ashley Munitions Company Model No. 187431 Serial No.
A-8-4119-B8".
Jeri and Bud decided that it was time to leave.
From behind the object they faintly heard a voice say,
“Fire!”
