Conventional Wisdom

Time Travelers Ball
Atlanta, GA - May 2, 2009

by Dan Hollifield

The first ever Time Traveler's Ball was held this past weekend in Atlanta. A steampunk event presented by the Atlanta-area TerminuSteam group, this was one of the best conventions that it has been my pleasure to attend. The organizers of the event deserve a huge round of applause for the near flawless functioning of everything concerned with the convention. Indeed, it was such a success that next year it will be expanding to a three-day con rather than this year's one day con.

The hotel and the staff were charming and helpful, to say the least. The hotel itself was clean and bright and beautiful. The rooms were quite nice, the beds comfortable, and the housekeeping staff went out of their way to  make our stay as perfect as it could be made.

As for the presentations, every one I was able to attend was not only informative, but delightfully relaxed and fun. Every one of the presenters is to be congratulated on their efforts. As are all of the vendors in the Huxter's room. Your wares are astounding!

The musicians who attended put on some awesome performances. I had several jaw-dropping moments listening to all of you. I stood, amazed, enraptured while you played, and wished that I could add your music to my personal library.

The folks who attended the Ball continually made me envious of your outfits, your good manners, and the way you made me feel as if I were a member of your extended family. I salute you, each and every one of you. I had many, many interesting conversations with you. You are a joy to be around.

To sum up; If you weren't at the Time Traveler's Ball, you missed out. If you were there, you don't need me to tell you what a fantastic time was had there. Many new friends were made, many old friends were reunited, and much happiness was shared. To mis-quote Stan Lee, "Make Mine TerminuSteam!" The Southern steampunk fandom is without a doubt the cream of the crop. Take a bow, folks. Each and every one of you deserves the highest of accolades. This observer hereby declares the first Time Travelers Ball a resounding success. Looking forward to next year. Hope to see you all there again!
