October Planet

by Meg Smith

Give us a world
of fire-gold trees and hills of
silver grass, rushing in the wind
of night's hearts.
Give us a world
of tides drawn by moons:
green, purple, and endlessly dark.
All this I ask, for all my nocturnals
and myself, to journey with wings,
claws, a breath curling in mist
in open hands. Once there,
we will make our own breath,
of dust falling through the rays
of a sun eternally lacing through
the most naked of the forest, waking.
