Confessions of a Vampire

by Jean Jones

Ever wonder how
a person
could sell their soul
for a hit?
I do.
I'm not hooked on crack, heroin,
or pain pills-
I don't even smoke
but I know about addiction-
What's the most intense
pleasure you've ever felt?
Eating something you
really really want?
Sex?
Even more intense?
A friend of mine,
a heroin addict
who overdosed
told me she told a cop
heroin for her
was 10 times better than sex-
For me it's like
an intense orgasm
that goes on and on
and you never
ever want it to stop-
If I died at that
moment I'd be happy
Burroughs was right-
If you could make pills
that recreated orgasms
no one would have orgasms
They'd just take the pill-
That's what addiction is like-
You never want it to end-
That's why you will
sell your soul for that-
Never ending pleasure
you will die or kill for-
That's why it's so hard to stop-
Take it from me-
