They Didn’t Tell

by Gary Davis

Stars in the chill void of space
bear witness from infinity.

Clouds thousands of feet high
sail and blow by leisurely.

Frothing tides roll in and roll out,
wet and dry this small rocky isle.

Crabs and critters scamper and dig.
They leave naught but a sandy pile.

Below earth and sky, silence runs deep.
Ten dead pirates, forgotten they sleep.
