Man Behind the Wall

by Kenneth Vincent Walker

The man behind the
Wall—is he short or
Is he tall? Is he stout

Or is he slim? Where
To begin to walk in
His shoes and live in
His skin. Why should

I even care about the
Man behind the wall?
What concern is it to

Me? Why should it
Matter at all? You see
The wall before you
Massive and thick,

Impossible to climb,
Unable to crack or chip;
Impervious to escape

Or at least that's what I
Thought all those many
Years ago to the best
That I can recall; I was

The man behind the wall.
