| Darkest Possessionby Alexis Child
Ghouls and ghosts fill us with frightAs we sit alone
 Under skeletal trees
 Where winds scream defeat
 Into dismal night
 Here are the horrors
 That haunt our past

In the air is a chillThat stirs the blood
 A strong shadow approaches
 Bending the weak light
 Of night around

In the temper of the monster's mindI am defenseless as I totter to the ground
Breath like steely knives pierces my neck
I struggle to resist his dangerous grip
But in deepest dying I feel the vampire's kiss

Darkness shoots across the skyAnd once or twice we hear him cry
What shape has come to us
With a mouth so sweet and poisonous
 And tortured hands so pale
 Eyes so red and blind?

Yet the strong heart loves me soAs the wind grows chill and cold
He comforts me with his love
And spellbound I hold my breath
With frozen lips in this living death

"His eyes have feasted on the deadAnd dark and sinister his mouth," they said
 "As blood in moonlight is."
With whisperings and wails of pain
 Silence falls again and again

Alexis Child hails from Toronto, Canada; home to dreams and nightmares.
She worked at a Call Crisis Center befriending demons of the mind that
roam freely amongst her writings. Alexis once lived with a Calico-cat
child sleuthing all that went bump in the night and is haunted by the
memory of her cat. She has had a small measure of underground success
with her gothic rock and darkwave bands in the past. Alexis is
currently working on her second poetry collection and starving in the
garret with her muse. A starving child is a frightful sight. A starving
vampire is even worse. Please donate non-perishable food items and
B-negative blood (and make it a double!).
Her fiction has been featured in Danse Macabre, Schlock,
Screams of
Terror, and U.K.’s Dark of Night Magazine. Her poetry has
been featured
in numerous online and print publications, including Aphelion,
Black
Petals, Blood Moon Rising Magazine, Grotesque, The Horror Zine, The
Sirens Call and elsewhere. Alexis' first collection of poetry, a
dark
and sinister slice of the macabre, Devil In The Clock, is now
available
on Amazon.
