Nutritionally Correct Comfort Food for Fantasy Creatures

by Robert William Shmigelsky

At enchanted Mountainside Lodge,
care home for the elderly,
to pursed lips and menus remembered
soup and sandwiches are served
every two days every two evenings.
Starting this week on Monday,
cream of conjured red tomato and grilled magic cheese sandwiches.
On Wednesday,
magic bean soup and golden egg salad sandwiches.
Friday,
cream of bean stalk and chicken feast sandwiches.
Sunday,
Cretan beef barley and golden trout sandwiches.
Tuesday,
Strega noodle soup and hippogriff sandwiches.
Cream of mandrake and shaved roast roc, stone soup
and sliced sphinx, cream of gnome potato & chimera cheddar
and behemoth ham salad.

Seven soup and sandwiches days later,
we’re back on tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches–
on Monday.

Robert is an aspiring fantasy writer taking English courses at Okanagan College to try to improve his writing. Besides reading and writing, some of his hobbies include computers, football and history. He has a dry sense of humour, for which he blames his stepfather. Also, he has a habit of making history jokes no one but him understands. He is currently working as a certified care aide in beautiful British Columbia to support his writing.
