Fearful Side Roads
The May 2018 Flash Writing Contest

The Premise:

When you are about your daily business, do you sometimes take side roads in your thoughts about things or situations having nothing to do with the business at hand? Do they occasionally get you into trouble?

Examples could be:

A.) Your taking a test in school, but simultaneously you are fantasizing about the student across the room.
B.) Someone has cheated you at the auto repair place...or a doctor has billed you big time having done nothing what-so-ever for you...or a driver swerved in front of your car without even a motion or a toot of their horn and you are imagining getting even with them.
C.) You're dreaming of your vacation property and just basking in the light of the three suns on Alpha Omega Prime...or wondering how many jellybeans "are" actually in the huge glass container at the candy store...or...just letting your mind drift.

Now, what if every thought in your main character's imagination "came to pass" and your character had no control over it. Your character would have to experience in real life everything they imagined, whether they wanted to or not.

A person with an active imagination might create more happenings than they are able to deal with.

Your writing prompt is to write a story about your main character suddenly having the power tp bring to life every thought that came into their mind.

The Rules:

Note: The rules have been updated and modified so read carefully. Somethings that have been allowed in previous contests might not be allowed now or in the future.

01. Stories submitted must be under 1,000 words.
02. Keep all material PG-13 as if a 13 yer old is reading. No "overt" sex, violent acts or foul language. Keep events subtle (making use of clever and indirect methods to achieve your plot and story).
03. You must choose your genre. It must be either Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror as a single genre...or...you are free to mix any other genre with one of these main three. (Example: Fantasy/Romance, Comedy/Horror, Science Fiction/Adventure etc.
04. Formatting: Only bold or italics can be used in a story. Block your paragraphs without indenting using a space between each paragraph. No images allowed in the contest topics.
05. No one may post any creative material into the contest topics including stories or story excerpts. All creative material must be posted by the moderator.
06. Feel free to comment on the stories and general writing topics throughout the story writing and voting time periods.
07. If you have something unfavorable to say about a story, make it constructive, so the author can benefit from your viewpoint and insight.
08. Never speak negative about the authors themselves.

Timelines

The writing period will begin on Sunday April 29, 2018 and will end after Saturday May 5, 2018.

The reading and voting period will begin on Sunday May 6, 2018 and end on Saturday May 12, 2018.

An interesting thing, this one, indeed...eh,eh

Mine is already done, then I'll be waiting for the usual reviews/suggestions before sending it in...As tomorrow is Labor Day here in Italy, like in the rest of Europe (set on 1st May, differently from North America...), I think that the entry will be sent in on 2nd May of course... :D

We have 1 story in and 1 story on the way. I love the early writers capturing stories out of thin air.
